The San Diego Association of Public Safety Dispatchers (APSD) will be presenting awards on April 17th, 2010 at the 2010 Dispatcher Appreciation Awards Banquet in the categories listed below. The following outlines nomination requirements, eligibility, and selection criteria for each award.

Award Categories
DISPATCHER OF THE YEAR
This category will recognize an individual dispatcher who has contributed significantly to the profession of public safety dispatching during the prior calendar year.

Evidence of a significant contribution may be, but is not limited to, exemplary performance on a consistent basis, or substantial efforts made to better the profession through training or innovation.

COMMUNICATIONS CENTER OF THE YEAR
This category will recognize the center that has performed most admirably over the past calendar year.
Reasons for recognition can vary from overcoming substantial personnel issues, innovative approaches to dispatching, or a single event in which the center worked together to further public safety.

This award will consist of a plaque that can be displayed in the winning communications center, along with certificates for all dispatchers from the winning agency.

INCIDENT OF THE YEAR
This category will recognize a single dispatcher or a team of dispatchers who performed well during a significant event or incident.

Each dispatcher involved in the incident will receive a plaque and/or certificate.

Eligibility

bulletNominees must have been employed as a dispatcher for a public safety agency in San Diego County at any time between January 1st, 2009 and December 31st, 2009.

Nomination Process
All nominations must be submitted on the forms provided. The forms must be legibly printed or typewritten. Nomination forms can be obtained from any APSD Officer, Director at Large or by downloading from this page.

Any person can submit a nomination. More than one nomination can be submitted by any one individual. There is no limit to the number of dispatchers nominated from one agency. A dispatcher can be nominated for more than one category. A separate nomination form must be completed for each category the dispatcher is nominated for.

Nominations must be received by 5:00 PM February 1st, 2010.

NOMINATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MARCH 8th, 2010, 5:00 PM.  Postmarks will not be accepted.

Selection Process
An Awards Selection Committee will review all nominations for each category and vote for one recipient in each category.

The Awards Selection Committee will be comprised of either five or seven public safety dispatchers from different agencies in San Diego County. The Committee and the selection process will be directed by the Event Chairperson. Nominees for any category are unable to serve on the Committee.
